"I remember two people trying to kill me and my friends.”

“Yes, and Jacin was one of them,” she said, evidently unconcerned with the whole killing part of Scarlet’s statement.

“I guess so. There was a blond guard.” Glee spread over the girl’s face. The look had the power to stop hearts and brighten rooms. But not to Scarlet.

“And how did he look?”

“He looked like he was trying to kill me. But I’m sure my friends killed him first. That’s usually what we do to people who work for your queen.” The smile vanished and the girl shriveled away, tying her arms around her waist. “You don’t mean that.”

“I do. And believe me, he deserved it.” The girl was beginning to shake now, like she was on the verge of hyperventilating.

#BookADayUK / Favourite book about books and/or bookshops
Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan and The Collected Works of A.J. Fikry (also known as The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry) by Gabrielle Zevin are two very different books but are amongst my favourite books about bookshops! I wrote a blogpost about books for book lovers earlier this year and these two were featured. I love books about books!

The other day I thought you know what, I’ve been working really hard lately, I deserve more books. I mean I get more books whether or not I’ve been working hard because I have no impulse control but the point is, look at these books I got. How nice.
